We visited Styring Vineyards in Newberg, Oregon in August 2017.
http://www.styringvineyards.biz Our favorite Vineyard and Winery!
We love the wines and the Styrings! The atmosphere is really laid back and comfortable, plus, the setting is gorgeous. The owner and winemaker, Steve Styring, was Bruce’s college roommate. We have had the privilege of pouring wine during tasting events for years. This year, we spent 3-weeks at the vineyard enjoying fun times together and we poured during the Eclipse Party and Labor Day weekend.
The Eclipse Party was a delightful surprise to us. We were more focused getting there before the eclipse-seekers created traffic jams and didn’t think about actually watching. The vineyard was very close to totality…the air cooled, shadows eclipsed, sunset/sunrise colored the hills, very cool. The Best part? Stress free party with friends and no crowds or traffic!
We enjoyed hiking the vineyard and grounds, visiting family and friends and nourishing our souls after months of caregiving.
One night, we cruised downtown McMinneville in Styring’s vintage Mustangs and Thunderbird during a car show and cruise-in called “Dragging the Gut”. Kids waving flags while engine-gunning classic cars showed off in a parade of big kid toys. Never knew McMinneville had such a fun event.
While at the vineyard, Bruce caught up on some RV repairs and we planned the next few stops. Our original plan was to go to Glacier National Park. Unfortunately, there were fires and we were getting smoke and ash even at the vineyard. The Columbia River Gorge and Glacier National Park were engulfed.
Luckily, the RV life allows the flexibility to just change our plan. We decided to go west to one of our favorite spots, the Oregon Coast.
Until next time Styrings!!
